beach clean up

On Friday the 27th of September we went to Waikowhai Bay to clean it up. We went to the beach the same day as the big climate change march. We couldn't go to the climate march so we wanted to do something instead. We decided to clean up our local beach or bay. We didn't go because we went the last time at and it was less crowed but that one had 1000's of people. Before we left we got to get our climate change signs we made for the last climate change march.
We stopped outside of school and chanted a chant which is "Hey Hey Ho Ho climate change has got to go" Heaps of people beeped at us and waved. 

We walked down to the beach and got into groups of five, six or seven and then we were given gloves and a parents to go with. Miss Najack took our signs and put them in her car before we left to clean. My group was Nikhil,Ehsan,Indie, Yousuf,Toby, Faris and me and our Parent was  Ms Daly. We found heaps of things there like Clothes, Plastic bottles, fishing nets, metal nets and we even found a pare of Hand cuffs. We found heaps more but we couldn't pick up everything. We had to go back but before we went back we took photos. Once we were done we had to go and give the rubbish to the teachers and then leave. We walked back to school and got back at 2:00pm. It was so fun my favourite part was climbing up the ledges of the beach and picking up the rubbish that was up there. The only challenging thing was walking back because we had to go up the big hills. When we did get back to school we played and had a ice block. Then the bell rang for the end of the term but before we all left we sang happy birthday to Mrs Jones because it was her birthday the next day. . Other people got her cards to.Here are some photos

holiday narratives

Hey there bloggers!

 Last term we have been writing narratives about our holidays. We sort of did a recount but we exaggerated it and turned it into a narrative. At first we did a plan in our books using a mountain. The bottom of the mountain was your starting sentence then a little up the mountain was a problem then at the top of the mountain was the climax (the worst part of the problem). After the climax there was the resolution(a little down the mountain) the part where you fix your problem. And lastly there was the ending. I really liked doing these narratives because I could use my imagination to create something that is worth reading. Unlike recounts everyone thinks they're boring.

Here is a bit of my story

On the day of camp we had to get to school at 7:30 and meet our group color in the junior block. By this time my heart was pounding and I was extremely excited. Click to continue  my narrative. 

cross country

On Wednesday 11th of September our school Waikowhai Primary did Cross Country! I was an epic day and we all had a lot of fun. The best part of this years Cross Country was the fact that it was a fun run. We had fundraised for 2 months making 14 thousand dollars. Our fundraising goes towards a canopy for our school. So on the day we had a lot of different activities that spell SKOR standing for Skipping, Kicking, Obstacle course and the Run. I was a leader so I went around with all the year 5 kids helping them get SKOR. My fav part was when I was into the last hundred metres of the run and me and my friend Torian started sprinting down the finish line. He still won :(  It was a great day full of fun. If you have a school fun run you will probably have as much fun as I did (LOTS). 

Maori God People

This week we are working on drawing a Maori God for Te Reo Maori. The god has to look a bit like a god but it is your imagination. When we have finished the design of our own god we will make a better copy. We had the choice to choose out of 

1. Tane - God of Nature
2. Tangaroa - God of Ocean/Sea 
3. Rongo - God of Peace and Architecture
4. Haumia - God of Uncultivated Food and Wild Food 
5. Tu - God of Man and War 
6. Tawhirimatea - God of Wind and Storms.  

I chose to draw Tu the god of war/man.  I tried to make mine look like a Maori God so my god is holding a Kratos. A kratos is used as a weapon to protect yourself, it is made out of coral or wood.  Here is my work in progress.

squash

Hi welcome back bloggers! For the last few weeks we have been learning how to play Squash. Squash is a game that is similar to tennis but you have a squash wall/court. There are 3 lines, the top lie is called the out line, the middle line is called the service line, and the bottom line is called the tin. If you want to learn how to play squash here are some easy to follow steps:

step 1: practice your hand-eye co-ordination so every time the ball comes towards you you will be able to hit it every time, except for when the ball bounces of the Squash goal too hardly.
step 2: grab an opponent and have a game of Squash, but do it together and work together and see how many times you can bat it to each other.
step 3: now you know haw to play using teamwork now try competitive. try to make it hard for the other person to get it but just remember if he/she says let before it goes out you have another game.

CONGRATULATIONS! now you know how to play squash. now go out there and challenge some people. down below are some pictures of us having games of Squash

MT RUAPEHU CAMP!!!!!!

This year Te Waka Ako went to MT RUAPEHU for camp,We need to get to school at 7:30,  For the first day we were on the bus playing games ,my bus buddy was Rio my friend , We went to Hamilton garden to find what Mis Sands hided ,as Mis Sands took some photo, We need to write what garden is it in and we came third.

At camp!!!

When we got there were I was so excited to live here for 4 days for camp, We went in to our own room to tidy up our own gear so we can go to play in the games room ,we get to sleep with our friend for 3 night and we get to sleep at 10:00 for my first time .

snow time!!

on the second day ,Te Waka Ako went on the bus dressed up with snow gear, When we nearly got there we changed bus because we need the chans on the bus, When we got there we were so exciting .

when the time went past we got lessons but me and Noah and me got picket out to go from the top of Happy valley ,as we were sliding down the hill the blezard came flying down it hurt when it hit you chin.

My favorite part was  the mountain because it is the first time on the mountain and it was awesome because we get to feel the real snow on the mountain.The other is the hamilton garden because we get to know what garden .

It was fun year 3 &4s we get to play snowball fight's and slid down the mountain you should try it out because we get free time ,when we get free time we slided down from the top of the mountain with no one stopping you.

   

emotions that when I go to camp

HI bloggers!!!!

This week Te Waka Ako is going to camp on Mt Ruapehu and my emotions are excited because this is my first time leaving my mum and skiing on the mountain. I am happy to be sleeping with my friends on the mountain and getting challenged and nervous that we might see our friends who are not in school and friends from other countries that have came to New Zealand to go skiing and snowboarding on the mountain. I feel scared because we could bump into people and get hurt.

When I get home I might want to go up the mountain again because it will be fun next time on the mountain. Also, going on a higher slope where I haven't been before and I might want to go with my mum and dad to ski or snowboard!
